The UNESCO International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC) has since its launch in 1992 been a principle programme in the area of technical, vocational education and training (TVET). It was born by a resolution of the Genaral Conference in 1991, which urged enhanced action in the area of Technical and Vocational Education.

International exchange of ideas and experiences and promotion of studies on policy issues, and devoted t system development in technical and vocational education;

National research and development capabilities enhanced for the improvement of necessary research infrastructures. Access to databases and documentation, with information, communication and networking as its centerpiece.

Primarily, UNEVOC centers and UNEVOC associate centers are there to lead in the development of TVET in member state. They act as a point of contact and the hub/centre for action to serve stakeholders and clients. This involves requesting, collecting, receiving materials and information and providing services to policy-makers, administrators, trainers and other stakeholders for the development and improvement of TVET.

1. Providing leadership and support in developing and improving TVET nationally
2. Obtaining and securing resources
3. Receiving UNEVOC publication for dissemination and distribution
4. Channneling issues, new and interesting ideas, experiences and practices to UNEVOC and UNEVOC network
5. Undertaking activities such as meetings, seminars, workshopes, conferences, research, studies, etc.,
6. Mobilizing TVET experts for participation in UNEVOC events,
7. Providing advice to National Commissions for UNESCO
8. Communicating with other Centers,
9. Sharing resources as requested
10. Reporting as required

UNEVOC Sri Lanka; jointly functioned by the Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) and National Institute of Technical Education of Sri Lanka (NITESL)

Maintain the effective links with UNEVOC Centres of the South East Asia, through adaptation of International experiences, best practices and innovations in TVET.

1. Exchange experiences with other UNEVOC centers in South East Asia and UNEVOC main center in Bonn.

2. Sharing information, exchange of materials and reports.

3. Dissemination lessons and best practices.

4. Share exploring tools, methods, experiences, exemplars in innovating policy & curricula among the centres.

5. To become a UNEVOC centre of excellence with respect to Instructional Design for TVET in the region.

6. Exchange of expertise human resources among the UNEVOC members, according to the requirement.

7. Form Mobile Training Teams with sharing experiences of other UNEVOC centres in the region.

8. Host International Seminars.

1. A TOR comprising of achieving all objectives is to be defined.

2. Proposal for recommencement of UNEVOC, Sri Lanka. (Jointly submitted by TVEC and NITESL)

3. Initiate immediate communication methodology to communicate with UNESCO-UNEVOC, Bonn and other centers in the region.

4. Initiate to develop a web site for UNEVOC in Sri Lanka.

Conduct research locally and internationally to formulate mechanism for utilization of UNEVOC Network productively and efficiently.

Training of TVET Trainers, CBT Curriculum Development, and Multimedia e-Learning Courseware Design.
