All persons managing, running or controlling any institute for the provision of tertiary education or vocational education shall apply for registration. The application for registration could be obtained from the office or download from the TVEC web. Applicant institute should provide correct and adequate in information required in the application attaching copies of supporting documents wherever appropriate.

After receiving the completed application with supporting documents, TVEC officials visit the training institution for onsite evaluation. Evaluation is done by considering the criteria setout in Development Plan published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 887/8 dated 7th September 1995.

After receiving Evaluation report, Director-General make a recommendation to the Commission as to the appropriate category under which the institute is to be registered.
The Commission, having considered the report of the Director-General shall make an appropriate decision regarding the registration in terms of Section 14 (4) of the Act.
The Director-General shall register the institute as specified by the Commission
If inadequacies are found during the inspection, application will be rejected and reasons are informed to the institution. Institutions can re-apply for registration after corrective actions with re-evaluation fee.
