Registration of Training Institutions  
 

The registration of institutions and their courses gives confidence to students, parents, employers, Government and all stakeholders, that training content, student assessment and certification meet specified standards. Students and parents are able to identify recognized training providers and courses. Institutions benefit as the registration and subsequent guidance by the TVEC helps improve the internal and external efficiency of the training provided by them. Recognition by the Government consolidates the status of training institutions thus improving their access to resource support from various agencies. The Government is able to achieve its objective of maintaining an effective training system that can meet the human resources needs of the economy.

Registration of training institution is done according to the clause No. 14 of Tertiary and Vocational Education Act no. 20 of 1990. The criteria for the institution registration were gazetted in the government gazette (extraordinary) No. 887/8, dated 7th September 1995 to assure the quality and relevance of TVET sector in the country. Adequacy and relevance of infrastructure, training equipment, teacher qualification, curricula and training delivery are evaluated at the registration stage

 
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
     
  Fees for Registration of Training Institutions  
  Recommended Fees for Provisional Registration are as follows
  1. Treasury funded Public Sector Institutes - Rs.500.00 (to be forwarded with the application)
  2. Private and Non Governmental institutions
    • A+ Grade institute - Rs.3000.00
    • A Grade institute - Rs.2500.00
    • B Grade institute - Rs.1500.00
    • C Grade institute - Rs.1000.00
  3. Re-evaluation fee due to inadequacies of training institute is Rs. 1000/= for both public & private/NGO institutes.
 
  Since the Grade is decided after onsite evaluation, Registration application must be forwarded with the minimum registration fee of Rs 1000.00 and the balance, if any after determining the Grade of registration will be informed to pay later.  
     
  Payment could be made by  
 
  1. Money order prepared in favour of Deputy Director (Finance), Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission and paying office as "Narahenpita"
  2. Direct cash payment could be made at TVEC office, “Nipunatha Piyasa” Colombo 05.
 
   
   
   
  Institutions are graded based on Registration Assessment Criteria and Grades are given below.  
     
  Grade C  
  Marginally acceptable for provisional registration. This registration valid for 2 Years  
     
  Grade B  
  Fully acceptable for provisional registration. This registration valid for 3 Years  
     
  Grade A  
  Having obtained Grade B or C and over 50% of the courses are accredited. This registration valid for 3 Years  
     
  Grade A+  
  Having obtained Grade A and Quality Management System (QMS) is established.
