Vet Plans

Vocational Education and Training (VET) Plans for Growing industry  Sectors

Development of Vocational Education and Training (VET) Plans is a pioneer activity initiated by the Tertiary   and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) in the year 1999 in giving effect to its objects setout in the Act of Parliament and the Corporate Plan of the TVEC.

This planning initiative was underpinned on the premise  that the  industry knows best  about  the   training  and skills needs of  their   workforce.  Hence,  Industry associations, lead  training  agencies  and  professionals in the private as well as public sectors take part in the process of VET plan development. As a part of this activity, TVEC also undertakes industry visits to grasp the real skills needs of the industry.

Outcomes of this concerted planning initiative have been using to reorient training through starting new training courses  and  improving and  expanding  existing  courses  conducted  by public  and  private training providers  as required by the industry.  Occupational identification for National  Skills  Standard  development  as  per industry needs is another outcome of this development activity.

Usually, a VET plan comprised of six chapters.  The first chapter illustrates to  general background of the  industry followed by   study  methodology  elaborated in the  second  chapter.  Human  resource profile of the  industry is analyzed in the third chapter. Fourth chapter discusses current training profile where details of current supply of training   are  presented.   Fifth   chapter  explores  the  training  initiatives to be  implemented  at   the    training institutions   to  meet   the    manpower   needs   of   the   industry.  The   last   chapter   provides   details   of   plan implementation strategy and monitoring mechanism suggested.

Up to 2007, the under mentioned VET plans  have  been   developed   in   the   industry   sectors  specified   below.   Training activities proposed in those plans are being implemented utilizing financial grants scheme operated by the TVEC.   Under that,  financial   assistance   is   given   on   priority   basis   to  public sector   training  institutions to implement training programs suggested in VET Plans.
