The UNESCO International Project on Technical and Vocational Education (UNEVOC) has since its launch in 1992 been a principle programme in the area of technical, vocational education and training (TVET). It was born by a resolution of the Genaral Conference in 1991, which urged enhanced action in the area of Technical and Vocational Education.
Objectives of UNEVOC
International exchange of ideas and experiences and promotion of studies on policy issues, and devoted t system development in technical and vocational education;
National research and development capabilities enhanced for the improvement of necessary research infrastructures. Access to databases and documentation, with information, communication and networking as its centerpiece.
Purposes of UNEVOC Centers
Primarily, UNEVOC centers and UNEVOC associate centers are there to lead in the development of TVET in member state. They act as a point of contact and the hub/centre for action to serve stakeholders and clients. This involves requesting, collecting, receiving materials and information and providing services to policy-makers, administrators, trainers and other stakeholders for the development and improvement of TVET.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Providing leadership and support in developing and improving TVET nationally
- Obtaining and securing resources
- Receiving UNEVOC publication for dissemination and distribution
- Channneling issues, new and interesting ideas, experiences and practices to UNEVOC and UNEVOC network
- Undertaking activities such as meetings, seminars, workshopes, conferences, research, studies, etc.,
- Mobilizing TVET experts for participation in UNEVOC events,
- Providing advice to National Commissions for UNESCO
- Communicating with other Centers,
- Sharing resources as requested
- Reporting as required
